How Are Comets Developed?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A comet is a heavenly body like a planet and is a part of the solar system. Comets travel round the sun in oval shaped paths. When the sun and planets were formed, these comets were formed as well. Astronomers say they are the oldest and best preserved material in our solar system. A comet as a centre called the nucleus. A hazy cloud called the coma surrounds the nucleus. The coma and nucleus together make up the comet's head. Comets develop a long, shining tail as they near the sun. 70 to 80 per cent of the nucleus of a comet probably consists of gases and ice mixed with dust. The remaining 20 to 30 per cent probably consists of fine grains and larger chunks of metal and rocky material.

Comets are identified by their serial numbers and are named after their discoverers. Halley's Comet was named after its discoverer Edmund Halley.
