The non-metal is very important for life. It is used for various purposes. It is used widely in fertilizers, matches, gunpowder, fungicides and insecticides.

Sulphur smells of rotten eggs. At room temperature, sulphur looks like a soft bright yellow colour solid. When it is burned, it produces a blue flame. When it burns, it emits sulphur dioxide. It is soluble in carbon disulfide and is insoluble in water.
