Why Would My Boston Terrier Deliver 1 Puppy And Puppy Die At Birth?

Answer Question

It would be impossible to tell you exactly what the puppy died of. It could have been, that the mom had a complication and because it wasn't handled correctly, the puppy died. It could be that the puppy was sick. It could be many things. If you want to find out for sure, what the puppy died of, then there is only one way to do that! You need to take the puppy's body to the vet and have the vet do a Necropsy, which is like a Human Autopsy on the puppy. The vet would be able to tell you the exact cause of the puppy's death. Other than that, you will never know. If you do decide to do that, then you need to put the puppy's body in a covered plastic box and put it in the freezer to preserve it's organs, until you take it to the vet for a Necropsy. You really need to take the mother of the puppy to the vet and make sure that she doesn't have anymore puppies inside her that have not been whelped (delivered) and make sure there are no Placenta's remaining inside her. There may have also been something wrong with the mother of the puppy that you were not aware of, that she passed on to her puppy, that caused it's death. Boston Terriers, have large heads and most of the time, the mother needs a C-Section to deliver the puppies, because the puppy could be too large to pass and can get stuck in the birth canal which could not only kill the puppy, but it could kill the mother. That could have also been the problem! What breed was the male, that you bred your female with? If the male was larger than your female, then the puppies would be too large for the mother to deliver on her own and the puppy could have gotten stuck in the birth canal. I can tell you that it is very important for your females health, that you take her to the vet and make sure that she's ok! If she has any puppies or Placentas remaining inside her, then she can also die, if you don't take her to the vet immediately, to have them removed. I'm sorry about the loss of your puppy! It's very sad, but that's one of the main reasons, that you should not breed your dog, unless you know exactly what you are doing, you know how to assist and handle a complication when it comes up and unless you have the male and the female that you are breeding Health and Genetic Tested, before you breed to make sure that they are healthy and it's safe to breed them. Please have your female Spayed, so this never happens again!

Along with loving them to pieces, he wants Mya to have another litter aswell as I do. Poor little Mya has shown sign's of depression since she lost that baby. She and the male are absolute doll's very loving and affectionate. I have lost 2 babies also so it doesnt matter if you are human, animal whatever.. A mother losing there child will effect any!! Thank you again!!

You're welcome! I very sorry to hear, that you lost your two babies. How heartbreaking and tragic! I really would like to ask you to please reconsider breeding Mya again, because if she had problems with this pregnancy and whelping, chances are the same thing is going to happen. If you still want to breed her, please wait until she recovers. It's very important that she is bred with a BT smaller than her and that she is under a vets supervision the whole pregnancy and whelping!
