What Is A Climate Change Levy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Climate change levy is abbreviated as CCL. It is a tax payable the users of energy in the United Kingdom. The main objective of paying climate change levy is to encourage conservation of energy, to increase the efficiency of energy and to reduce the emission of carbon. There has been a continuous campaign (which is still running) by the critics of CCL to ensure that the CCL is replaced by a proper carbon tax, which must be paid if the source of energy used by the consumers either contain or emit more than the required limit of carbon.

The climate charge levy was introduced on April 1 in the year 2001. In the year 2000, the government of the United Kingdom enacted the Finance Act of 2000 and the CCL was placed under the purview of the Finance Act of 2000. It was estimated that imposing the CCL would reduce the level of annual emissions by 2.5 million tonnes by the year 2010.
