1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are several major cities in West Yorkshire.

Bradford became a city in 1897 and has a population of around 477,000.  The city includes a university with about 10,000 students.  A highly rated business school is part of the university.  The National Museum of Photography, Film and Television is a major tourist attraction in Bradford with its extensive collection of over three million items attracting 800,000 visitors each year, making it one of the most popular museums outside of London.

Leeds is another major city in the area, with a population of around 443,000.  It was mentioned in the Doomsday book and was an agricultural market in the early thirteenth century.

Leeds railway station is the 6th busiest in the UK outside of London and connects all parts of the West Yorkshire region.

Wakefield is another city in West Yorkshire.  It has a population of about 76,000 and was once dominated by coal mining, but just about all the pits were closed by the end of the miners strike in 1984.

Attractions in Wakefield include Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the National Coal Mining Museum.
