Where Is Meer, Belgium?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The village of Meer (sometimes called De Meer) is located in the province of Brabant (the Duchy of Brabant). There is a well known brewery north of Antwerp which is near the Dutch border in the village of Meer. This traditional brewery has an open mashtun as well as a bricked-in kettle. The Sterkens are the family that owns this brewery and they trail their history in Meer right back to 1654. You can find evidence of a brewery built on this site since 1731.

The Duchy of Brabant was officially established in 1183/1184. The territory roughly covers the current province of North Brabant, the Brussels-Capital Region and the Belgian provinces of Antwerp, Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant.

The Kingdom of Belgium has a rich history and culture. Belgian beer is famous all over as it has one of the most varied and the most abundant collection of beers on the planet. Belgium can trace its beer-brewing origins right back to the Middle-Ages, at the time that monasteries began creating beers.
