    The word "dress" is used as a verb to refer to the act of putting clothes on or to furnish somebody or persons with clothing. Dress can also be used in its verb form to refer to the act of decorating, adorning or garnishing something. It can also be used in the sense of decorating something with the purpose of display. Dress also refers to the act of grooming or arranging hair.

    The verb "dress" was taken from the Middle English word "dressen" which meant to arrange. This was in turn taken from the Old French word "drecier" meaning to arrange. The word was originally derived from the Latin word "directus" which was the past participle form of "dirigere" meaning to direct. Synonyms of the "dress" include get dressed, dress up, clothe, decorate, snip, fit out etc. The antonyms of dress are undress, open, undress, mess up, wrinkle etc.

    It really depends on the context, so a definition can not be given unles you put it in a sentence. To dress is to remove the guts from an animal and prepare it for butchering. Clean an animal.
