What Is A Certified Chronometer?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A certified chronometer is a type of high meticulousness watch. This watch is different from other watch because it can display the seconds. These chronometers are tested and certified by an official neutral body known as COSC. COSC is the abbreviated form of Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres. It is a non-profit organization formed in 1973 by five watch making cantons. They are Bern, Geneva, Neuchâtel, Solothurn and Vaud.

This organization is also supported by the Federation of Swiss Watch Industry. An identity number engraved on the chronometer and a certification number given by COSC makes every chronometer unique and different from its other counterparts. Many times a chronometer is confused with the chronograph but they are two different devices made for different purposes and uses.
