What Is A Violin Concerto?

    The concerto that consists of just a solo violin and orchestra is known as a violin concerto. It began since the advent of solo concerto during the Baroque period in the 17th century. Since then it has evolved and developed a great deal up to the current times. Some of the major performers of violin concertos are Bach, Bartók, Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Vieuxtemps, Vivaldi, and Wieniawski. Johannes Brahms composed one of the one best known of all violin concertos. The violin concerto by Beethoven is also very famous.

    A violin concerto had three movements traditionally but now it has been altered and consists of four movements. Some of the modern composers of violin concertos are Dmitri Shostakovich, Igor Stravinsky and Alban Berg.
