When Did The Legend Of Zelda Games First Come About?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Legend of Zelda was first published in 1986 by Nintendo. There have been several versions of the game since its release, each centered around a young hero who is called upon to save a princess named Zelda from the game's villian, Ganon. The games are set in a fantasy world known as Hyrule.

The hero's name is Link, although players do have the choice of renaming him in some versions. Link's age also varies from game to game, with him being fairly young in some and older in others.

Zelda is a mixture of role playing, adventure, action and puzzles. Upon its release in 1986, it became widely popular and the first NES game alongside Super Mario Bros. to sell one million copies in 1987.

The latest release is The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess, which is available on both the Nintendo Gamecube and the Nintendo Wii. The older Zelda games can be purchased via the Wii Shop Channel, and costs 500 Wii points.
