I've Planted Grass On 10/27/07, Should I Put Straw Over The Top To Help It Grow Or Leave It Open?

We filled in our swingset area with topsoil, it used to have mulch in it. I just put pre-seed fertilizer on it and planted grass. Should I cover it, or just leave it? Should I water it or not? I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I'm worried about frost, it frosted last night. What do I do?

Don't worry about the frost.  What I have done in the past is covered it with straw., NOT hay.  Hay has got weed seeds in it., straw doesn't.  Make sure it stays moist, not soggy wet.  If its in the shade, you wont have to water it that much, but keep an eye on it.  I usually put perennial rye down on it too.  It grows fast, lasts 7 years, and is green in about 3 weeks.  Kentucky blue takes longer to germinate but lasts 50 plus years once established.
    Hope this helps
