What Happened To Mark Knopfler From Dire Straits?

    Mark Knopfler, who was the lead singer and chief lyric writer for Dire Straits, who were execptionally popular during the late 1970's to the 1980's has enjoyed a successful and varied career, despite not always being in the public eye.
    After he left Dire Straits and the band effectively disbandoned, Mark began working with other artists such as Bob Dylan, Joan Armatrading, Tina Turner and in April 2006 released an album of duets with country singer Emmylou Harris, thereby demostrating the versatility of his work and his eclectic taste in music.
    He has consistently done charity work, using music to raise awareness and funds for various causes.  He has written the musical score for a variety of films, starting off with Local Hero in 1983.  In addition he has carried on song writing and has enjoyed success as a solo performer.  Now aged 57, he is currently enjoying some time away from the stage to spend time with his family.
