What Was The Clash Between Abraham Lincoln And The Congress About The Reconstruction Plan In The Aftermath Of The American Civil War?

Following the end of the American Civil War, the Confederate States of American had once again become part of the United States, thus accomplishing President Abraham Lincoln's initial goal to fight the Civil War of saving the Union. The Reconstruction plan that President Lincoln had delineated to unite the nation as one whole unit involved the strategy of 'forgive and forget' the conflicts of the Civil War and put it all behind and instead look forward towards establishing strong ties between the North and the South in the economic, social and political dimensions.

However a segment of Congress did not agree with Abraham Lincoln's plan and instead declared that the South was the major culprit behind the Civil War and therefore should be accordingly punished. However President Lincoln used his power of veto to nullify the harsh bill of Reconstruction passed by Congress. But before the President and the Congress could reach a solution or a compromise to this problem, President Lincoln was assassinated.
