What Role Did The African American Women Of The Civil War Era Play?

Answer Question

Well those answers are okay, but freed and even enslaved African American women did participate in the war effort. Those women were spies, soldiers, scouts, nurses (most common), cooks, seamstresses, laundresses, recruiters, relief workers, organizers, teachers, activists and survivors mostly for the union army. Many of them also volunteered at churches and created new moral and literary improvements for society.

All work, no play. They weren't allowed to learn reading or writing and were being sold left and right. I couldn't be them!! A lot of them got separated from their kids and worked in the house. They got the least amount of rights because of being African American and a woman. I hope this helps!!!

Sometimes African americans fought on the battle field, but most of the time they worked as cooks, laborers, and teamsters, because of the large number of african american soldiers who wanted to be in the army.
