The Tudor sailors funeral was at sea if they died on board as it did not make sense to carry a dead body in the ship. They were put in a heavy sack or cloth, weights were put inside and it was sewn up. The sailors had a full religious ceremony with the body being thrown into the sea. They believed if they did not hold a proper funeral service the spirit of the dead sailor would come back to haunt them and bring them bad luck.
