Registering of dogs is important because when they are lost, It becomes easy to find them. Those dogs who do not wear tags and are not registered have less chances of re-uniting with their owners, once lost. Registering also makes easy to point out those dogs which are a bit
violent and creates problem for others. So, It has a safety point of
view. And these are the reasons they are required to be registered.

Hi. The importance of registering a dog, is if you decide to Breed that dog later on down the road, the puppies will be registered. If you breed the dog and don't register him or her, then the puppies will not be able to be registered. I breed Labradors, it is important for them to be registered, also, it gives the "owner" the opportunity to look at the lineage behind the dog. AKC, goes back 3 Generations, however, I believe you can still research up to 5 Generations on their web-site.
Also, if your dog or puppy is micro-chipped and they become lost, most micro-chips are registered through AKC as well, if your dog becomes lost, or stolen and is ever taken to a vet and the dog is scanned, the vet can not and will not release the animal back to the person or persons bringing it in for care. Those Micro-Chipped Numbers are stored in a National Database, for that reason.
