What Were The Factors That Eventually Led To The American War Of Independence?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It was Britain's malicious treatment of the colonists that eventually led to the American War of Independence.  Specially the unfair promulgation of British taxes on the colonists was what was the final nail in the coffin.  Although in 1775, it was the first time that a hostile rebuttal came out in the open against the British government, nevertheless it was just a repercussion of the years of animosity and hatred that had been building inside the colonists attributing to the harsh treatment given to them by the British government.

When the war was declared, the colonists did not have a strong base to fight against the well-equipped British army, but the inspiring leadership George Washington, who was a Virginian, motivated the valor of the colonists.  Later on help arrived from France and Spain against the British arm, officially declaring war on Britain.  It was in the year 1781 at Yorktown in Virginia that the British forces were coerced into surrendering to a combined American and French Army and it was clear that the United States of America had won the war.
