The largest library in the world is the 'Library of Congress' situated in Washington D.C. This library houses around 31 million catalogued books and other resources translated into 475 languages. The number of manuscripts in this library is around 60 million. The library also has the biggest collection of rare books; the famous Gutenberg bible is also preserved in this library.

The construction of this library was completed on the 24th of April in the year 1800. The library of congress holds over 120 million items. The library can be used by general public, but it can be checked out only by the members of the Supreme Court, congress and some other government.

The library is spread over three buildings now: - the Thomas Jefferson building, the John Adams building, the James Madison Memorial building.
