Wortley Hall can be found in the small village of Wortley in South Yorkshire and is a number of miles to the north of Sheffield. The hall is also known for its beautiful gardens which lie largely to the south and to the west of the Hall.
Wortley Hall used to be the ancestral abode of the Earls of Wharncliffe who were the Lords of Wortley Manor. It was constructed in the18th century and remained the seat of the Wharncliffe kin up to the World War II. The British Army made use of hall during the war.
For over fifty years the hall has been primarily linked to the British Labour movement. Nowadays it used by many trades unions as well as other organisations as a place for meetings and residential training courses. It is also used for wholly social gatherings. The hall has a license to hold weddings as well as civil partnership ceremonies. Visitors who wish to explore the stately grounds are also made welcome.
