Harry Longueville Jones was an archaeologist of Welsh descent, his paternal family originated from Wrexham, North Wales.
He was educated at Cambridge university. He was appointed Inspector of Schools for Wales in 1849.
In 1846, along with the Reverend John Williams he issued the first number of Archaeologia Cambrensis. The following year he organised a meeting at Aberystwyth and the Cambrian Archaeological Society was founded.
He was instrumental in the reform of university education and founded his own college in Manchester which was to be affiliated with London University - this was not a success but did lead the way for Owen's College Manchester.
He published a number of well known works such as a Paln Plan of s University for the Town of Manchester.
he is best remembered for his association with Archaeoligia Cambrensis.
