Its too far to do a short day trip excursion, and I would not recommend it. If you fancy on doing a two centre holiday you should be able to get flights into Cochin in India or alternatively think about going to Sri Lanka. To really see something in South India or Sri Lanka you will need to spend at least a few days or ideally a week. If you do a week in South India/Sri Lanka and then a week in the Maldives you will have had seen things and enjoyed the Maldives R&R
