The question is, should someone who is already dying be allowed to do as they please? Do they have the right to do whatever they want to themselves. In my personal opinion,

I know of a great man, who was referred by his students, who had multiple surgeries on his throat, including having his throat removed who just would not stop. They are addicts, there is little that is going to stop them. They are addicts who are dying, so what do they have to lose? Of course it may be more painful and uncomfortable for them, but withdrawal and cold turkey from tobacco addiction may be less pleasant for them and make their quality of life less pleasant too.

It is their final weeks, months, or years, so let them live and die how they choose, given their situation, wouldn't we all want to choose how to spend those last precious times.

i agree, unfortunately due to red tape and hospital policy these poor people are made to feel even more miserable in their final days.
