I Have 5 Little 5 Weeks Old Doxy Pups. They Are Just Starting On Milk. Does Any One Know Whether Or Not Baby Formula Is Ok For Young Puppies. And If It Has Expired, By How Much--can We Still Use It?

Anyone in any area wants to purchase one, let me know. Thanks

Do not use baby formula it is not appropriate for puppies and causes diarrhea.  Do NOT use expired products for your puppy.  Go to a veterinary clinic or pet store for puppy milk replacer.  At 5 weeks these puppies can be started on a mush of canned and hard puppy food.  Six to eight weeks is the usual age of weaning but puppies can be weaned as early as 4 weeks.
They need to start their vaccination series at 6-8 weeks of age.  Consult with your veterinarian about appropriate nutrition and care of young puppies.

I have tried to use baby formula in a pinch on an orphaned kitten i found & that kitten was not satisfied til the next day when I got it some kitty formula. It cried all night long. I later tried a recipe for homemade kitty formula with no luck either. Baby formula & cow's milk should never be given to cats/kittens or dogs/puppies it will cause diarrhea which gives them nothing as far as nutrition. Infant formula is fortified with vitamins people need, some may be too much for a puppy & some not enough. Either way it will cause prob in the long run. I knew this prior to trying it on the kitten but did anyways as it was 10at night when i found it & i just wanted to get it through the night!

I don't think baby formula is a good idea to give to puppies.  You should try to call a local vet office and ask them for their advice.  That way you can be sure what you are doing is the best thing to do for them.

At 5 weeks old they are more than ready for canned soft food. You may need to add a little water depending on their teeth. I have raised larger dogs so not real sure about their teeth size. At 6 weeks mine would be eating little bites by purina with a little water added.

Go to a pet store, and ask for formula to feed puppies.  They should be able to help you find what you need.  It's probably not a good idea to give them baby formula, because it may not have the proper nutrients the puppies need.  What about the mother of the pups?  She's the ideal one to be feeding them, until they're weaned.  You didn't mention how they've been fed up to this point. After they're weaned (off milk), at about 8 weeks old, they should be ready to eat puppy food and drink water out of dishes, like any other dog.

I don't believe it is but you can buy puppy milk at walmart for small puppies or ones that the mother won't nurse.
