I believe your friend is speaking only in terms of possessing a little knowledge about a lot of things. A philosophy of life many people adhere to today and in the past. If, you have the financial capability, desire and academic ability to follow your plan then by all means do so. Just a few years ago a young man I know very well did what your friend suggested. In his senior year he accepted a position of Internship in the development and planning department with the City. He did a great job and after graduation applied for a job in the department as Assistant City Manager. He did not get the job, it boiled down to "No Master's/No job! The following summer he began working toward his Master's degree. Within one year of his Master's he is the City Director of Planning and Development. You see, a Master's degree does not just give you new information, it gives experience like internships and work study programming, and it opens doors.

Your plan is an excellent plan, your combination of courses, will place you in a position where you can make a lot of choices, for the future. I believe you will do well and before you know it, you will a Director within some municipality or company and be grateful you followed, and reached your goal of a Master's degree. Good Luck!
