I have not seen the TV program of Dr Dean Odell but I am
sure that there is a problem in the obese peoples in which the diaphragm is
pushed up ward causing shortening of breath. This problem is called the obesity hypoventilation syndrome or Pickwickian
syndrome. In this problem, the fat deposits in the abdomen push the diaphragm and
result is low oxygen and high carbon dioxide in the lungs. The treatment is by
reducing the weight. For more details, visit Obesity hypoventilation syndrome.
