When Was Camden Lock Built?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Camden Lock located on the Regent Canal in Camden Town, London, England. The Lock is situated in between the junction of Chalk Farm Road and Camden High Street.
It is a double lock that has to be manually operated to regulate the difference in water level which is quite large for such a canal lock. During the construction of the Regent Canal, a Hydro-Pneumatic lock was put in which failed to operate and hence this had to be replaced with the manual double locks that are functional till this day.
The Camden Lock was commissioned in early 19th century along with the formal opening of the Regent canal in 1820.

Over the years it has become quite a tourist attraction, mainly because of the Camden Lock Market where quality goods can be purchased. This market is already 25 years old and continues to be an exciting place to visit. Also there are many places with a variety of live music around it making the place attractive for tourists and locals.
