What Was The Atlanta Compromise All About?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Atlanta Compromise was a famous speech delivered by notable African American leader Booker T. Washington.  Booker T. Washington was one of the major contributors for African Americans in the field of education.  He had great concern for the plight of discrimination that African Americans faced in the American society even after the abolition of slavery.  In the Atlanta Compromise, he asked other races in America to ensure fair treatment to the African American race.

Moreover he also demanded better jobs for African Americans for them to have a sound and strong financial base.  Apart from that, he also appealed to his fellow African Americans to concentrate upon ameliorating the standard of their lives and accept segregation.  In addition to that, he also asked the African Americans not to demand equal treatment.  Although many of the people did not agree with the approach of Washington, he was still regarded as one of the greatest African American leaders.
