Yes. Lawn mower racing is a real sport. The very first national lawn mower racing championship was held in Grayslake, Illinois in the United States during Labor Day weekend in 1992. The event was surprising very controversial. The outdoor Power Equipment Institute, which is a trade association that represents lawn mower manufacturers, opposed lawn mower racing because they say that it does not promote proper and safe use of outdoor equipment such as lawn mowers. Nonetheless, more than 3,000 spectators had a fun time watching the lawn mowers race around a track. All of the proceeds from the race went to fund the fight against Lou Gehrig's Disease. Since 1992, lawn mower racing has grown in America. Many people are getting interested in either racing a lawn mower or simply to come out with their families to have a good time watching the various lawn mowers race to the finish line.
