Often dogs will scratch off a tick. When that happens, the snout/syphon of the tick is left in the skin (why they say to burn off a tick) often this is the cause of the infection. It is not necessarily the bite of the tick itself. Aicha is correct though, seek immediate attention for your animal. Antibiotics are needed, and perhaps they can get the bite cleaned out. Basically, go to a vet.

My dog got a tick bite about two weeks ago, I removed it and it now is a big bump with a scab on the end it isnt causing him any problem when touching it and I have put antibiotic spray on it should I take him to the vets? Or is this normal after a bite. Ann

I pulled a tick out of the belly of my dog but it is red about an inch round with white in the middle
that is what i noticed first and then found the tick is this something i should worry about

My 10 yr old dog has been bit a few times and developed bumps around the bite. I had it checked out and my very trustworthy vet said that is common and nothing to worry about. Just clean the bite area and keep an eye on it for a while.
