    If I Am Co-owner With My Father On A Stock That He Purchased Years Ago, Do I Pay Capital Gains Upon His Death? He Alone Has Collected The Dividends Through The Years, I Am The Beneficiary Upon His Death.

    Capital gains are paid when you accrue a profit. If you never received the dividends, you're not responsible for capital gains. However, a final return has to be filed for your father, and that's where the capital gain comes in. Schedule D has to be filed with his return.
