Where Can I Find The Year Of A Motorcycle Engine Based On The Vin#, It's A Honda Engine?

I've recently just bought an old Honda ST70 and after contacting Honda UK and sending them a cheque for £28.75 they could not trace the bike. The said they would have to contact Honda Japan which could take up to 6 weeks for a response. I've just got in from work to find a letter from Honda, got myself really excited but when I read the letter it said "due to the age of the motorcycle the factory has not been able to provide the information" - a completed waste of time!
