What Was January Named After?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

January is the first month according to the most commonly used Julian as well as Georgian Calendars. The month has been named after the God Janus who is thought to be the God of the doorway in Roman Mythology. The month is named so because like the door, it is also the entrance to the New Year. Janus is said to be the god of all gates, doorways, beginnings and endings.
