Where Is Southampton?

Southampton basically is a city located towards the southern coast of England. It is said to be the nearest city to New Forest, which is located halfway amid Portsmouth and Bournemouth.

Southampton is positioned towards the northern-most section of Southampton Water where it combines with River Test and River Itchen. A person living Southampton is addressed as Sotonian. Even though Stone Age settlements are known to have subsisted in this region, the primary stable settlement was built by the Romans.     

According to the census conducted in the year 2005, the total population of this region was 222,000, having an average population density of 4,454 per square kilometre. The census report of 2005 also stated that the total area of this region was 49.84 square kilometres. The ethnic break-up of this region was said to be 92.4 per cent being White, 3.8 per cent being Asian and one per cent being Afro-Carib.
