Is Tramadol Pain Pills For Dogs The Same As Tramadol Pain Pills For Humans?

My dog had surgery recently and they gave him Tramadol for his pain. I take Tramadol for my back pain, so if was to run out of his pills could I just break one of mine in half and give it to him instead of getting his re-filled?

Tramadol is the same drug in both human and veterinary medicine.  Sometimes human medications are formulated together with other medications like a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.  Be very careful what you give your dog.  The doses for canines and humans are not the same.  Also your veterinarian prescribed a specific course for your dog post-op.  This means this is how long your vet felt your dog should need pain medications.  If your dog is still in pain after finishing the prescription you need to make sure nothing is wrong--that your dog is not having a complication.  Contact your veterinarian to discuss your dog's condition and before giving ANY human medications!

May your dog get well soon.Well yup of curse you can give him Tramadol as pain killer.Mostly medicines are same for human beings and dogs but there is always a difference of dose.Like for young one of humans the dose of medicine is different as compared to adults same is the case with dogs. What you have to do is just check that how much mg is illustrated on the prescription slip of dog if for example it is 250mg and you have the one with 500mg then just make it's two pieces and give that half piece to dog as one time dose.
