What Does Christmas Mean To You?

Is Jesus the reason for the season for you or is it just a day to give gifts? For me it's the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

It is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. My mom always had a cake on Christmas and we sang happy birthday to Jesus. Santa Clause didn't bring us gifts our parents gave us gifts and Jesus always came first. Now we try to keep the tradition going.

It has always been for Us about the Birth Of Jesus.  When my son was young it was also about all the other stuff because it is fun and the whole family would come and there would be dinner and gifts and midnight mass and then santa would come in the wee hours ;)    But now that my son is older I want it to be more about the Birth.. I think the commercialism starts the season way to early.. I would like to do it differently this yr.  Each day reflecting on the time line of the story.. The travel to bethlehem.. Herods trying to find them.. The journey of the wise men.. The settling into the stable.. The sheperds seeing the angels... The birth.. The coming together of everyone to see the new born Christ.. I will set out the nativity pieces as we go trying to recreate the story.  And gifts this year are going to be given more to angel tree and places like that rather than ourselves.  I think it will be a much better year.

Neither one.  It's a time for commercial profit that sends many people deeply into debt, which is why i wish they would do away with it.  If christians insist on celebrating jesus' birthday, they should pick a date closer to his birth rather than continuing to celebrate it near the winter solstice which was originally chosen to keep the pagans happy.

Would it matter WHEN it was celebrated....people would still spend more than they have, and by the way that is EVERYDAY, not just at Christmas..which is ONE day out of 365. And apparently the day was chosen to hopefully convert the day from a pagan holiday to a Christian one, from what I've read. But thanks for your view. Janes

It is the celebration of Jesus Christ.  Christmas has become so commercialized and the true meaning has been lost
