Where Can I Find A 'Free' English Course? I Had Tried But It Seems That Every Course Is EXPENSIVE?
1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating
You don't need to seek out English courses to help improve your language skills. Most of the courses offered are like you said expensive and not very productive towards garnering effective linguistic skills. It is best that you follow a self development plan. Identify the areas you feel that you have a weakness in and break down your learning objectives in three different segments :-
1) Listening comprehension and Spoken.
2) Reading comprehension and Written.
3) Grammar and accent neutralization.
For the first part watch movies, listen to music and expose yourself to various dialects of English. English, like any other language is diverse and is spoken and understood in different manner worldwide, even the associated slang and colloquial are different and vary in the places that language is spoken in. As a second language it would be impossible for you to get a command of the language as good as the natives unless you have exposed yourself to their culture which is best done when you watch their movies and television programs. I recommend you to watch documentaries and news channels as well in order to build an academic vocabulary and television shows to introduce you to slang. Make it a habit of writing down and practicing 10 new English words each day at least. Besides that, write almost a page everyday and get a friend of yours or a teacher to do proof reading so that you may know your mistakes. Finally, practice in front of a mirror everyday to improve your spoken. Get a good dictionary, as there are phonetic markers in the end which give show you how to pronounce certain words. Use voice chat software to discuss in English with people from all over the world, that would help you gain confidence as well and provide you an ample opportunity to practice your spoken.
