What Do You Mean By "Absolute Humidity"?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The word "humidity" simply means the presence of water vapour in the air. If we put a pitcher of ice water on a table, later the moisture gathers on the outside of the pitcher. This moisture comes from the air. There are several ways of expressing the humidity and absolute humidity is one of them.

Absolute humidity is the quantity of water vapour in each unit volume of air. There are so many grains per cubic foot of air. But for most practical purposes, this does not tell us very much. If we want to know whether we will feel comfortable or not, the answer "four grains per cubic foot" won't tell us whether the air will feel dry or humid. The more easily moisture from our body can evaporate into the air, the more comfortable we will be. The evaporative power of the air depends on the temperature. Absolute humidity does not indicate anything about the evaporative power of the air.
