What Does 'Ch' Mean On The Swiss Number Plates?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

All countries have their own international country-code. This is not the same a lot of people have seen in sports (there are other abbreviations in use).

The CH stands for "confoederatio helvetica", helvetic or swiss confederation. It is equal to the F used for France or the D for Germany.
In sports Switzerland is mainly represented by "SUI" - the abbreviation of SUISSE (french for Switzerland). This again would be equal to the FRA for France, the GER for Germany, the ITA for Italy or the AUT for Austria.

So the CH means the car has swiss immatriculation - and should therefore have swiss number plates. But sometimes other countries allow to have these things as holiday souvenirs... And some other cars could have a CH therefore.
