Looking For An Shih Tzu To Ask Question About There Ways And Understanding The Shih Tzu Are They Easy To Train Am A New Owner I Treat Him Like A Baby Is That Good Or Bad?

There don't seem to be any Shih Tzu owners on Blurtit at the moment, so although I don't have one myself I just looked up this information site to give you some ideas; also, if you put "Shih Tzu Training" into a search engine you will find a range of material, including forums where you can find owners.

From owners I have known, I do know that they are nice dogs with character, but quite stubborn and in need of firm training. And as someone who has known a good many dogs of different breeds, I can tell you that dogs are NOT babies or toys, they are pack animals who need exercise, variety and leadership (as well as affection of course.) I have known very many shih tzus in my experience, they are sweet loyal dogs and fairly easy to train. The one thing I would advise against is treating any dog like a baby - it causes more problems that you can possibly imagine. Dogs are not built to be carried all day in a purse or held on your lap at all times. Your dog deserves affection and you can hold them and pet them, but if he never gets to be a dog, he will not grow up in the best way. Dogs need to have their paws on the ground, to sniff the grass and other dog's butts. The more you treat him as human the more problems you will encounter. Dogs are either leaders or followers, if you are not the leader, imagine what your view will be:) Make sure your dog knows basic commands like sit, stay, come, down, and make sure he is only on furniture when you let him, not when he decides it's OK, same with jumping.
