The second amendment of the United States of America proclaims that the United States of America has the right to maintain a military force to protect its people and its sovereignty. It also says that the people of America have every right to protect themselves and thus will be able to possess arms. These arms will provide them the means to defend themselves.
This amendment has been mired in controversy from time to time because of the gun control laws in America. It is not very difficult to possess a firearm in the United States of America. Every time a group lobbies for stricter gun controls, pro-firearm lobbyists cite the second amendment. The ambiguity lies in the law itself because it does not explicitly state that civilians are to possess firearms. Anti-gun lobby groups are of the opinion that this amendment is only applicable to the Federal government.
