The city of Jerusalem was captured by Israel in 1967 in the six day war. The war was fought with Israel on one said and Syria, Jordon and Egypt on the other side. This was is called the six day war because in a matter of 6 days, to be precise 132 hours and 30 minutes Israel not only took over Jerusalem but also defeated the combined forces of Jordon, Syria and Egypt.

This war which was perceived as particularly humiliating to the Arab nations had a cascading depressing effect on these nation for quite a few years to come and led to the further deterioration of the relations between the Arab nations and the Western nations.

This war meant massive territorial gains for Israel as Egypt lost Sinai and the Gaza Strip, Jordon lost West Bank and East Jerusalem and Syria lost Golan Heights. The war proved to be costly to the world as it closed the Suez Canal for eight long years and resulted in increased freight prices in the trade sector.

The United States Navy lost the use of an "Spy" ship in International waters and many American lives of service personnel serving on the U.S.S. Liberty. Look up the regretable, deliberate unprovoked Military Attack taken by the participant "ALLY" of the USA!
