Horncastle is the name of a market town in England. It is located in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire. It has a population of 5000 residents. It is based to the south of Lincolnshire Wolds and is situated at the meeting point of River Bain And River Waring. It got its market charter way back in the 13th century.
It was very famous for its well known August Horse Fair. It was in all probability first held in the 13th century. It was an annual trading event with international recognition. It lasted for about a week every year. It was held until the beginnings of the 20th century. There is a castle built by Romans at Horn castle and now it is known as Banovallum which means the Wall on River Bain. It was also ruled by the Saxons and they called this place Hyrnecastre and its modern name was derived from the Saxon name.
