Strange as it may seem, direct mailing is an excellent way to bring your web site to the attention of existing customers and suppliers. Tried and tested, direct mailing your customer base with a postcard marketing your web site can be used either at the immediate site launch or to promote new web site features or special online-only offers.

A postcard prominently bearing your web address is eye-catching, effective and reusable. But to reduce postage costs they can also be handed out to customers along with their purchases, at trade shows or exhibitions, or posted on bulletin boards.

Be sure to fully involve customer-facing staff in the web site in order to give them a 'sense of ownership'. If staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the company web presence they will prove to be invaluable in making referrals to the site. Make sure all staff can recite the site address, know how to find the site on the web and are aware of what information and functionality the site contains. Encourage staff to promote the site where appropriate and provide customers with the web address.
