There are certain skills that are crucial for a person wanting to be part of an orchestra. It is necessary for a person to have all the skills related to the lower group of music. Then the student should show exceptional talent and dedication. Concentration levels of the pupil have to be extremely high as well. Students should exhibit any of these skills related to their chosen instruments. Violinist should be able to easily play the treble clef well, cellists the tenor clef, flute players the piccolo, clarinet players the A Clarinet, Oboe players the English horn etc are all the individual skills necessary. In addition to these Concert bands require playing experience of at least two years.

Music teachers have to put the best talent forward, generally on the part of the school, and hence have to be harsh in their selections.
