My security deposit has been held; Landlord asked to furthrer pay extra $843; ..how long duration do I indicate for them to return my deposit in a 'security deposit demand letter' for Iowa property?

Lived in apt for 7yrs. Left apt clean and habitable and paid rent on time with evidence. Writing a 'security deposit demand letter' to landlord. What should the duration of time be that I document in the letter for owner to return the deposit to me otherwise I'll take him to small claims court. Ie. What is the Iowa law?
