For storing massive amount of information secondary storage devices are used. There are different storage devise used in system unit. These secondary devices are Hard Disk, Floppy Disk, CD-ROM, Tape Drive, Zip drive etc.

Hard disk is secondary storage device used to store data and programs permanently. We can change or erase the data from hard disk. It can store large amount of data for longer time. It is compulsory secondary storage device for the personal computers. CD-ROM stands for Compact Disk Read Only Memory. It is option and most popular storage device of the personal computers. Compact Disk (CD) capacity is measured in bytes and can store more than 750 million characters. Floppy disk is also optional device for personal computers. It is available in two sizes; 3.5 inches (store 1.5 million characters which is equal to 1.4 MB) and 5.25 inches (1.2 million characters).

Hard disk storage capacity is more than floppy disk and CD-ROM. Tape driver is like a tape recorder used to read from and write data onto tape cartridge. Zip drive is like a floppy drive but it can store a large amount of data. It is used to store data or information on the disk.
