What Is The Most Expensive Photograph Around Today?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Imagine a supermarket chain in the US carrying only products for 99 Cents, shelves full of garish, loud articles of our modern word in the shelves, photographed by a clever artist Andreas Gursky from Düsseldorf. He enlarged it to a width of 3,4 meters, changed it somewhat on the computer,  and called it "99Cent II Diptychon" recently sold for US $ 2,48 million at an auction. It is therefore the highest price ever paid for the work of a living photo-artist. With this, Gursky broke his own record: just in May  2006 he sold another picture of his 99 Cent series (there are 6 existing in total) for 2,26 million US$. Obviousely, this new record caused quite some sensation in the art world. Unsurprisingly, the "99c Only Stores" chain took advantage of this and is advertising one of Gursky's pictures on its website.
    Congratulation Mr. Gursky!
Now I definitely know, why I bought that high resolution digi-camera last year!
