What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Living In A Big Family?

Answer Question

I guess I think the advantages of a large family greatly outweigh any disadvantages! I grew up in a family of 15- no, no twins and yes all from one dad and mom. In other words, there aren't any step-kids, they're all my biological brothers and sisters. I love knowing that there is always someone there for me if I need help with something or just feel like chatting. It's great fun to be able to tease and be teased and know it's just fun and games. I don't think I've ever not liked it- except maybe when I was in school and someone would make a nasty comment about how my parents must really love each other. But you know what? Good that they do right?! The holidays are crazy busy, and it's nice to be able to buy Dad and Mom an expensive gift- everyone pitches in 20 bucks and... Yeah! I wouldn't give up having a big family for anything! It's a great comfort.

From my own personal experience, growing up in a family of 6 children, was a very unpleasant experience.
I felt lost in the crowd, suffered low self esteem from constant belittling, and criticism from my siblings. My parents were so burned out of having kids, by the time I came along they had no time to take baby pictures of me. That's right - there are absolutely no baby pictures of me! I was second from the youngest, and the only girl. My mother was constantly drained of energy and patience, and my father worked himself into an early grave trying to support all of us. To top it all off, most of my brothers were mean brutal bullies. As adults they are still the same, and they took a liking to treating my daughter in the same manner. The best thing I ever did for myself, was to take advice from my therapist, and got the hell out of Dodge! Being estranged from my brothers has resulted in a happier life!

Advantages of being a member of a large family are we can help each other. Furthermore, we can be more responsibility and independence. Disadvantages are we can be lonely and no idea to discuss when we have a problem. :)
