    The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is basically a microprocessor chip in the microcomputers (PCs) and this chip is responsible for performing all the functions that take place in a computer. The job of the microprocessors is to execute the instructions that tell the processor what is to be done.

    The CPU has two main parts, the Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU) and the Control Unit (CU).

    The ALU enables the CPU to perform mathematical operations like addition, subtraction, division and a number of other complex operations. The CPU uses the CU to make decisions and then generate instructions based on these decisions.

    Other components of the CPU include data bus, address bus, and registers.
