Is Shingles Contagious?

We recently discovered my mother has shingles; she's had it for about 3 to 4 months. I would like to know if it is contagious because I have a sister who is now 7months pregnant and has been around my mother even before we knew she had it?

    Shingles is an infection of a nerve area. It is very much a contagious disease. You can get chickenpox from patient suffering from shingles.

    Pregnant women should definitely avoid people with shingles. This disease is mostly transferable to persons having weak immune.
